LadyGaga has met with performing artist Lady Starlight during this time; after a performance at the Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint from Interscope Records. As an apprentice songwriter under an internship with Famous Music Publishing, which was later acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga was then able to sign a music publishing contract with Sony/ATV. She was later hired to write songs in support of Britney Spears and labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's first album, "The Fame", was released in 2008, with very little radio attention. Gaga went on tour across Europe as well as the US to promote her album. It was not until Gaga was able to release her first single, "Just Dance", that mainstream attention began to come to the music industry. Gaga had a labral tear in her right hip that she had been nursing secretly for several weeks in the hoping that she'd be able to continue her tour. The singer was unable walk after a show in Toronto and was in extreme discomfort. The tour was stopped.
